Ministries
As a parish community, we share, according to our gifts, in the ministries of the cathedral. The student altar server, the lector, the Eucharistic minister, and others, form a strong bond which is a blessing for all parishioners.

Lectors
Readers proclaim the Word of God as found in the scripture readings of the Mass. We need readers at every Mass, including weekday and Sunday Masses, and special feasts and solemnities. If you wish to become a lector, you will need to be able to read clearly and with understanding. You will also need to participate in an orientation and continuing training. Orientation sessions are held in January and in October, and are announced in the bulletin.
Eucharistic Ministers
Extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist help with the orderly distribution of the Eucharist at Sunday and feast day Masses. If you would like to volunteer for this ministry, please watch the bulletin for training sessions, which are held in January and in October.
Eucharistic Ministers to the Homebound
If you are interested in this special ministry, please contact the parish office for training and scheduling. Let us know of a parishioner who is ill, house-bound, or who has passed away. Send us a message or contact the parish office at 503-228-4397.
Greeters
Greeters welcome parishioners and distrubute bulletins containing the Sunday Mass readings as well as parish updates. Greeters arrive 20 minutes prior to the service.
Altar Servers
Boys assist at the Masses for Sundays and special occasions. Requirements include registered Cathedral families who have received their First Communion and attend weekly Sunday Mass
Cathedral Choir
Our cathedral enjoys an excellent four section choir. The choir rehearses on Thursday evenings from September through June and sings at the 11 am Sunday Mass, as well as for special Cathedral liturgies. The principal role of the choir is to lead the congregation in song. At appropriate times, the choir provides music meant for listening and contemplation. If you are interested in joining the choir, please call the parish office.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word
At the 9 am Sunday Mass, we invite children ages four through Fourth Grade to celebrate an age appropriate Liturgy of the Word. We extend this invitation just before the First Reading. The children receive printed materials to use and take home. We need one or two volunteers each week to conduct this liturgy. If you are interested in volunteering for this ministry, please call the parish office.
