Corpus Christi Procession 2025

On Sunday, June 22nd, 2025, several thousand Catholics filled the streets of downtown Portland for a historic Eucharistic Procession with Archbishop Sample. The crowd was remarkable in both size and diversity, with participants from Latino, Asian, African, and Anglo communities. Joining Archbishop Sample were more than 100 altar servers and seminarians, over 20 priests, 8 deacons, and 50 religious brothers and sisters. In his homily at the Mass, the Archbishop stated, “I predict that today is a turning point for the renewal of Christ’s mission in western Oregon.”

As the Mass ended in the packed Cathedral, thousands waited outside for the beginning of the street procession. The bell rang to mark its start. Hymns echoed through the streets in Latin, English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Tagalog, and more as the procession stretched across four city blocks. At the conclusion, the Cathedral bell rang out to welcome the return of the Blessed Sacrament and the faithful for final Benediction. The thousands gathered in front of the Cathedral knelt in adoration as Archbishop Sample gave the final Benediction and thanked the faithful for their witness and joy. The crowd, filling three full city blocks, erupted in joyful applause at the close of his words, with over a thousand of Latinos shouting, “¡Viva Cristo Rey!” - (Long live Christ the King)

The National Eucharistic Revival

A Pew study from 2019 reported that less than 30% of Catholics believe in the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Even more disconcerting, that study reported that 22% of Catholics said that while they understood the Church’s teachings on the Eucharist, they don’t believe it.

To repair the broken faith in the Eucharist in our Catholic Church today, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) have begun a three-year initiative called the National Eucharistic Revival to enliven our faith in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist throughout the country. Each diocese, and parishes within those dioceses, are planning liturgies, missions, programs, and events to help educate and evangelize Catholics on the very source and summit of our faith.

To get connected to the National Eucharistic Revival, please visit the Archdiocesan webpage on the Revival as well as the website for the National Eucharistic Revival to see the overall timeline and other resources.
